In the weeds

11 Jun

I know. It’s been awhile.  I have been in the weeds.

Being in the weeds is an old expression we used when I waitressed, when we had too many tables and we weren’t able to get to them all, when food was ready, when beer was poured and when guests were waiting to pay.  I’d say, “Help, I’m in the weeds!” Then another waitress would step in and take over a few of my tables to lighten my load.

A friend of mine has been battling cancer, so together, a group of people decided to put on a breakfast to raise a bit of money, but more importantly, to raise spirits.  Little did we know what that would do for us.

Who knows who benefitted more, Stephen and his family…

Or Bill who seared the sausages…

Dante, who made the best hotcakes EVER (and reminded us of it all morning long)…

Me and Heather who plated up breakfast…

Brenda, who perked lots of coffee…

Blaine who helped scramble at least 500 eggs…

Jeff and Debbie who fried up hash browns…

Dave, Liz and Ben who greeted people…

The gals who did the dishes…

Or the lads taking the donations…

Or the hundreds of people who came out on a rainy Saturday morning to help a family who would never ask for help, but who would be the first to help another.

It was time.  Everyone wanted to show support, and to let them know that they’re not in this fight alone.

And I’m pretty sure we all benefitted equally.
